Mr. Fancypants

fan·cy   \ˈfan(t)-sē\

loyal friend, son, brother, lover to all, loved by all, known to drool A LOT

It's with a heavy heart that I write this post.  After 6 1/2 years, we lost our beloved Mr. Fancypants on Easter morning.

We did a lot of research of what kind of pet we wanted after Bo & I got married.  Bo had always wanted a bullmastiff & we found a breeder in Bastrop.  We met Fancy's parents to check out the breed & we decided that breed was the best choice for us.  Once Fancy's mom had puppies on 9/24/04, we got to meet them all & pick which one would be ours.  They were all so cute but Rebecca had the final pick & she picked the "green" puppy....one w/ the green collar.

Since Bo got to pick the breed, Bec & I got to name him.  Bo suggested "Banshee" because he was gonna be a wild banshee but we're girls, so...his official AKC registered name is Mr. Banshee Fancypants, but most everyone called him Fancy or Fancy Boy.

We picked him up the week of Thanksgiving on a day trip up & back from Bastrop.  He whimpered a little but mostly slept the whole way home in my arms.  He loved his new house where he could run, jump & play...but not get on furniture.  We knew if we let him up once then we would regret it since we knew how big he was gonna get.
8 wks old

It seemed like Fancy grew by the minute!  I think his top weight was about 130lbs which is actually a little light for his breed.  Where he used to fit under the lowest rung of the barstool, he was soon eye level with the seat of the barstool!

Fancy got to go on a ski trip with us to Steamboat & even had to evacuate for hurricanes a couple of times.

He was always such a good sport...letting us decorate him for different occasions.

He was such a good dog & very obedient.  If you were outside, Fancy was with you.  He had a quiet presence about him...always sitting back, scoping out the scene.  Mostly, he'd chew on his rawhide toy & make his rounds to whoever was outside to see who wanted to give him some loving.  He even did a couple tricks..."Speak" got him to bark & "Shake" got him to shake your hand.  Very talented pup he was. :-) And of course he was always rewarded for doing tricks.

The girls absolutely adored him!  Rebecca was always trying to make him "speak" for cookies or take him for a walk, Izzy wanted to ride him & Maggie just wanted to grab him.  Fancy was Bo's son, his buddy.  They spent every minute together when they were outside...which was a lot!  I can't even begin to put into words just how much Bo loved Fancy.

Fancy had a great last weekend surrounded by lots of family & friends.  We spent a lot of time outside with him this weekend, so I hope that made him happy.  6 1/2 years isn't a long time to have with someone but it was a GREAT 6 1/2 years!  Fancy's presence is severly missed & we hope he enjoyed his time with us as much as we did with him.

We miss you Fancy Boy!

Easter Weekend

We started the weekend out having a crawfish boil for Good Friday.  We had some family come over to enjoy a delicious Good Friday meal.

Party Foul!  Hope yall like dirty bugs!

Poor little guy.  He thought he had a chance.  But alas, your destiny is to be in our bellies!

Saturday we went to an Easter Egg Hunt in Bay Colony w/ my dad & crew.

Saturday evening, we dyed eggs for the Easter bunny.

Easter Sunday the girls did an egg hunt in our backyard before going to church.  We went to church with the Watsons & then had an egg hunt in their front yard, followed by a delicious brunch & swimming.

Toy Story on Ice

4/15/11

Toy Story on Ice came to town last week & we decided to get tickets.  Actually, when they went on sale in November, Val & I jumped on it because the kids were obsessed with Toy Story.  We ended up with pretty good seats...6 rows up on the floor risers.  Given that it was in Reliant Stadium, they were really close to the action.

Valerie & Andy took Liam and I took Izzy.  We left the little ones at home since we knew it would be a 2 hour show...and Izzy & Liam needed it to be "their day."

The story line followed Toy Story 3.  It's unbelievable what these skaters can do with these giant costumes on w/ ice skates!  The best part was definitely Ken & Barbie!

My camera's not the fanciest so my pics could've been a lot better, but you get the idea...

Maggie ~ 9 months old

4/15/11

Maggie's stats:
weight - 21 lbs. 1.5 oz. (75-90%)
length - 29" (90-95%)
head - 45.5 cm (50-75%)

Seriously, where are our kids getting their height from?!?!?!

Overall, Maggie is a VERY happy & easy going baby.  She's crawling all over the place & actually pulled up on her own last night!  Good thing Bo lowered her crib a few weeks ago!

She loves dogs.  When she crawls over to Fancy, she'll either grab on or laugh when he moves.  Doesn't even mind getting sloppy kisses all over her face.

LOVES her big sisters.  If I'm holding her & she hears Bec or Izzy, she'll start turning left/right trying to find them.  Then when she finally sees them, she squeals with delight.

She still doesn't have any teeth but it's not stopping her appetite.  She eats a basic breakfast of baby food & some banana.  Lunch is more baby food.  Bottles & snacks throughout the day.  Dinner can be up to 3 jars of baby food!  I'm working on giving her more table food & we need to practice on the sippy cup too.  It'll be nice when she's eating what we eat...my pantry currently has 1 full shelf dedicated to baby food & has cases of formula on the floor!  Only 3 months left on the bottle & formula!  Hooray!

We love you Maggie Pie!

Maggie on the Move

Good news/Bad news....Maggie's crawling!!!  She's been rocking back & forth for quite a while now but finally decided to take off last Friday, 4/1/11.  We never fully baby-proofed this house after we moved in since Izzy knows not to stick things in wall outlets...I think.  ;-)  So, I went out to buy more plug covers.  So far, the only thing Maggie's interested in are my lamp & laptop cords.

I tried to post a video but it didn't load properly.  Hopefully I'll get this all figured out soon & be able to upload a video soon.

Another milestone for Maggie.......we finally moved her to a big girl car seat.  She had still been in the baby carrier, but with her already over 20 lbs, she was getting a little too heavy to carry around in that bucket.  Of course, now we're having to use the cart cover when we go to stores.  It's a little more difficult for me to give her a bottle or snacks w/o having her dump it all over the floor...or fall over to the side, but it's a work in progress.
