Carnival Magic - Day 4 - Montego Bay, Jamaica

Day 4 - Wednesday, 7/9/14 - Montego Bay, Jamaica

Eh Mon, we in Jamaica today!  Immediately, I want to start singing "Every little thing is gonna be alright..."

Maggie & I woke up around 6:30am & snuck out of the cabin to walk the deck & get coffee & pancakes to bring back to the room.  This of course, was only the first course of breakfast!  Once everyone was ready to go, we went to the Lido Buffet around 9am to eat before getting off the ship.

After getting off the ship, we grabbed a taxi to the Sunset Beach All-Inclusive Resort to enjoy a day of fun in the sun.  With the reputation Jamaica has (not very safe) I felt more comfortable in a place where we could do everything we wanted in one spot.  Since this was an "all inclusive"  you got all you could drink (beer, mixed drinks (small but strong!), virgin drinks, cokes) & eat (buffet w/ lots of options & a stand alone grille w/ burgers, chicken, grilled cheese, fries, etc), use of their beach w/ lounge chairs, use of all pools (I think there were 3-4), lazy river & use of the water slides.  One pool was adult only w/ a swim up bar but we didn't get to enjoy that one... (#travelingwithkidsprobs)  ;-)  We spent most of our time on the water slides & lazy river.  The pool connected to the slides was really nice because it has a "beach access entry" so it's really shallow & you can sit there while waiting for the kids to come down the slides.  Izzy & Bella could slide alone but Bo & I took Maggie on our laps.  Not because of the rules or anything (b/c technically by the height requirement, Izzy shouldn't have even been able to ride it...rules a little loose here :-) ), but because Maggie didn't want to go down alone.

After lunch, we took a break from the water slides & went to enjoy the beach.  We put a few lounge chairs in the water & the kids looked for sea shells.  There was some sea weed in the water so the kids didn't really want to go too far out.

Back to the water slides before we have to leave....

My mom being in this tube is a pretty big deal because she can't swim & the last time we were
here, she had a "drowning" incident.  The tube flipped over her head in the shallow area when
she was trying to get out of it & she couldn't get it off, so she thought she was drowning.
(Even though she was on her knees, water to her waist & her head above water)
I know it sounds scary but it was actually pretty hilarious when it happened 7 years ago.
She has a different opinion though! :-)

Bo & I skipped dinner in the dining room this evening.  We ate in The Steakhouse on board to celebrate our 10 year anniversary.  The food was really good, the service & attention was excellent...but I probably wouldn't do it again.  You have to pay extra to eat at this restaurant & to me, it just wasn't worth the price.  Here's the only picture I saw of the rest of the crew having their dinner...

Bo & I met up with everyone else after dinner & we took the kids to Camp Carnival.  While they were there, we went to a magic show in the Main Theater.  It was semi-interesting...4 dancers slipped on the same spot on the stage, they stopped the show after the 4th fall to wipe that area down, & then we were all falling asleep so we left.

When we picked up the kids from Camp Carnival, we saw that Maggie won "best dancer" in her room!  (She must get that from me.) ;-)
Aaaaarrrr you going to congratulate me on my big win?!  :-)

"Hello room service.  Yes, we'd like to order a bunch of sandwiches & chips & fruit to eat on my mom's bed.  Thanks!"  She wasn't super-stoked to have crumbs all over her beds, but at least we got our late night snack in before calling it a night.

Tomorrow......we swim with the stingrays!

Carnival Magic - Day 3 - At Sea

Day 3 - Tuesday, 7/8/14 - At Sea

This morning we decided to class it up & have brunch in the Southern Lights dining room.
Bloody Marys & Mimosas please! :-)

The menu is so much better than what's offered on the Lido Buffet.  This was my steak & eggs breakfast with a side of curly fries!

The girls had french toast covered in fruit loops!!!

Having some fun at brunch.  Do I have something in my teeth?  We were "those people" on the boat that kept taking pics of our food at any given meal....so the guys thought they were hilarious when we'd take a pic of our food, they'd pick up a bowl of butter or an empty plate & ask us to take their picture too.  :-)

After brunch, we went to the WaterWorks for some fun in the sun!
Here's Izzy & Bella waiting in line for the water slides

I thought it was cool to see a plane flying over
our boat...and wondered if they'd be able to see
us from way up high in the sky.
An ice carver showed his skills poolside.

1 o'clock...lunch time!  No, we weren't super hungry but needed to get some food in the kids so they wouldn't whine later.  We went to the buffet for pizza, burgers & nachos.  Having spent enough time in the sun, we sent the kids to Camp Carnival to watch The Lorax & we adults went to the Serenity deck which is only for 21+.  That area is kinda overrated...extremely windy, a few hammocks, meant for relaxing...I'd rather watch all the nonsense in the main pool area.  :-)

Once the kids movie was over, Camp Carnival hosted a Build-a-Bear event.  The kids got to pick out the animal they wanted & an outfit.  Izzy got a bear & Maggie got a dog.  The CC crew members give you a bear box full of stuffing & the kids stuffed their animal, zipped it up & dressed it.

After building their animals, Izzy did Wii Just Dance & Maggie danced around with her.  Once they were done, we swung by the Lido buffet to get some fruit & nachos before heading back to the room to get ready for dinner. (In case you couldn't tell by this point...we ate A LOT on this trip!)

Our dinner table was a little sparse tonight.  Christopher & Eddie didn't come to dinner because Christopher had a melt down when getting ready, so Julie put him down for a nap w/ Eddie...and then left them there to sleep.  Once we were at the table, Bella said her stomach hurt, so Julie took her back to the room w/ Eddie.  Little Miss Sunshine didn't get a nap today either so she passed out at the dinner table! (Yes, I'm that mom who lets her kid sleep across 2 chairs so I can enjoy my dinner in peace!)

Even though Eddie wasn't there, we still got to enjoy his song & cake to celebrate his birthday...the waiters just sang to my mom instead!  :-)

Dance Party in the dining room!

After dinner, we all went to the Family Comedy Show.  It was pretty tame...so for anyone who's ever enjoyed a real adult comedy show...it was pretty lame.  I think the comedians even knew it was blah, but you have to adapt to your audience.  After that, we went to the photo gallery area to look at all the pics we had taken at all the photo stations.  There were some pretty funny ones that I didn't want to buy, so I took pics of them with my phone.  One of the workers came up to me & told me he saw what I did & I needed to delete the pics I had just taken.  I said OK & deleted one.  He said he knew I had more & he wanted my phone.  Uh...no.  After more back & forth with this fool, he finally left us alone.

There was a beach party on the Lido Deck at 9pm so we went down to that for a while.  By 10pm, Maggie was getting tired, so we went back to the room.  When we got inside, we found Maggie's seal had found its twin!

Let's get some rest....tomorrow we in Jamaica mon!

Carnival Magic - Day 2 - At Sea

Day 2 - Monday, 7/7/14 - At Sea

Our first full day at sea & Maggie and I were up before the sun.  We went out onto the balcony so we could enjoy the view & then all of a sudden, Maggie asked, “what’s that orange thing over there?”  Because it was already light outside, I assumed the sun was up.  When I looked out at the horizon, I saw the teensiest sliver of sun peeking out.  The clouds were so pretty backlit w/ the sun & we even saw a water spout!

Once everyone else woke up, we all met up at the Lido buffet around 7:30/8am for breakfast.  After my kids were done eating, they hopped in the pool with Bo.  I’m guessing we forgot to mention that the pool would actually be filled with sea water because Maggie kept gagging when the pool water went into her mouth.  She finally decided she had had enough of that water & started rinsing off in the showers provided near the pool areas.  Giving us her tell-tale signs of an impending puke, I knew what was coming next.  I started walking her back to our chairs & then SPLAT!  She puked on the pool deck!  We found someone to clean it up & they promptly asked if she had thrown up in the pool.  I guess if she had, they would have had to drain & disinfect it before filling it back up.

After that, everyone was done eating & we went up to the Water Works kids area.  Izzy & Bella were tall enough to ride the slides so they did that a few hundred times.  Bo & I tried the DrainPipe as well (which is a bit more tame) but I slammed my head on the slide on my way into the "bowl"….so that was my one & only time on the slides this cruise.

Taking a break from the water, we went to the Sports Square to play a round of mini golf.  Christopher & Maggie weren't all that into it but Izzy & Bella finished their game.  This area’s really neat because there’s mini golf, foosball tables, ping pong tables, giant connect 4, etc to keep the kids busy.  There’s also a ropes course called SkyCourse that runs the perimeter of the Sports Square in the air but we couldn't do it because none of us had closed toe shoes.  :-(

We went back down to the buffet around 12pm to get the kiddos fed.  We had burgers, hot dogs & pizza...and of course, ice cream!

Because I didn’t want to deal w/ a cranky Maggie again at dinner, I decided to take her back to the room for a nap around 1pm.  Julie decided to do the same for Christopher.  Luckily, our balconies were open/connected, so we sat outside while they napped.  Bo took Izzy & Bella to Camp Carnival to watch Despicable Me 2.  It’s so neat because Camp Carnival has a schedule for each day with so many activities, so you decide what you want to do, if you want to do it.

The littles ended up napping til 4-5pm & I had to wake up Maggie to get ready for dinner.  We all got a card delivered to our cabins informing us we got a new dinner table assignment, so we had high hopes this one would be better.  Tonight was Elegant night for dinner so everyone was expected to dress up & then you would meet the Captain. There were a million picture stations set up on the Promenade, so we stopped at ½ a million & then met the Captain before heading to the dining room.

El Capitan!

We got our new dining table assignment (#774) & it was MUCH better.  Although it wasn't directly on a window, the view from the window we were near was worth the switch.  Lobster was on the menu tonight so most of us had that.  Julie & Bo ended up getting the Prime Rib w/ a side of lobster!  For dessert, the waiters, Gusti & Rumandita (or “Uncle Rumi” as Bo called him), sang Happy Anniversary to Bo & I and Julie & Eddie and gave us a slice of cake.  We were there celebrating both of our anniversaries, Eddie’s birthday & Maggie’s birthday.  Needless to say we were about to get a lot of singing & cake!

Bec the lobster & her twin

Kids feeling very fancy drinking out of wine glasses!

Everyone waving our napkins, celebrating with the waiters as they danced & sang

Christopher loved Uncle Rumi!

I don't know what this face was all about but
obviously something was going on since the people
behind us seemed amused too!

The kids went to Camp Carnival after dinner from 8pm-10pm.  Each room had their theme each night so Maggie & Christopher's room theme was "Royal Gala - Prince & Princesses" and Izzy & Bella's room was "Arts & Crafts."  While they were in CC, we all went to the show in the Main Theater.  Our show was "The Grooveline"

Once the show was over, it was time for us to get the kids from CC.  We went to the room to change into more comfy clothes & were met by a....dog(?) wearing my sunglasses!

Once we changed, we went down to the lobby to listen to music & go the shops.  Afterwards, we went to the Promenade to listen to karaoke.  After going back/forth about what song Julie & I should sing, she decided NOT to sing & I signed up w/ Coal Miner’s Daughter “You ain’t woman enough to take my man!”  After that, we were pretty pooped so we headed to bed.
